Challenges of Implementing Cloud Initiatives

 Cloud expert James Staten discussed the challenges IT leaders meet with when implementing cloud initiatives at the recent CDM MEDIO CIO Summit in Boston.


Staten has pointed out that although certain skills and knowledge will always be necessary, IT leaders will have to make big changes in their thinking to adapt to the shifting Cloud environment.


While there are many benefits of moving to the Cloud vs on-premise, there are certain challenges as well.  As one of the biggest challenges, James highlights the assumption that the ways things were done before will just now apply to the Cloud.  Some of the processes you've developed, and things you've learned in the past will still apply as you transition to the Cloud, but the Cloud is completely based on their protocols and core technologies, and you'll need to adapt. From the old way of on-premise updates, and bottlenecks, Cloud has a different set of benefits, negatives, and features that need to be understood, as your IT team makes the shift.
