Email marketing is going to turn 40 soon. Time sure flies! Over the years, it has changed a lot but it's still one of the most important marketing channels, and there are ways we can keep it thriving.

Nearly 40 years ago, Gary Thuerk, a marketer from Digital Equipment Corporation sent the first marketing email using an ARPANET address. In his email, Thuerk was promoting his company to approximately 400 people. While this was effective at the time, you've probably noticed that in today's world this would be considered as SPAM.

The fact that most brands use email marketing as a way of communication has lead to overall email saturation - consumers are getting hundreds of wanted and unwanted emails every day. Realizing this, marketers had to become even savvier and think about the best, most authentic ways to use email to communicate.

Consumers today are online more than ever, and they regularly turn to brands when they seek information or a solution to their problem. That's why it's so important to step up your email marketing game, and make it maximally effective.
